When we consider how we can become better corporate citizens, our commitment to solutions drives us to find new ways to tackle old problems. We try and address what we perceive to be pressing social issues through our charitable arm, Red Hands Helping.
Rolling Thunder
Red Five Security recently held the annual Red Hands Helping Rolling Thunder Ride. The 20-person event features a fleet of bikes, additional passengers, and spectators. Participating in the ride shows just how many Americans demonstrate their appreciation for the service and sacrifice others have made to help protect our freedoms and sustain our way of life. With NoVA Firearms, the event’s co-sponsor, over $2,000 was raised for Vietnam Veterans of America. Although the Vietnam Veterans of America focus primarily on veterans of that war, they promote, support, and advocate issues on behalf of all veterans. Some of their recent efforts include a push to improve Vietnam veterans’ access to quality healthcare, create a positive public perception of Vietnam veterans, and support the next generation of America’s veterans
Wreaths Across America
Red Hands Helping honored America’s fallen soldiers this past December by donating a wreath on behalf of every Red Five employee as part of the Wreaths Across America program. wreathsacrossamerica.org.
As Wreaths Across America notes, “To be killed in war is not the worst that can happen. To be lost is not the worst that can happen… to be forgotten is the worst.” It is with this in mind that Red Five is proud to support the Program and to remember and honor America’s fallen soldiers.
Warrior Cane Connection
Red Hands Helping team members traveled to Brookeville, MD, where they assisted Warrior Canine Connection with the training of its new litters of Golden and Labrador Retrievers. Describing itself as an “organization that utilizes clinically based Canine Connection Therapy to help wounded warriors reconnect with life, their families, their communities, and each other,” Warrior Canine Connection is dedicated to helping America’s veterans heal and live a full, meaningful life after returning from battle.
Thanksgiving Food Drive
Through our charitable arm, Red Hands Helping, we’ve hosted company-wide food drives to benefit SHARE, Inc., of McLean, Virginia. SHARE Inc. is a local non-profit that provides emergency assistance to the less fortunate in McLean and nearby areas of Northern Virginia.
In 2015, Red Hands Helping donated nearly 1,000 items to SHARE ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday, including hundreds of “most needed” items such as canned soup, canned tuna, and cereal. One of SHARE’s volunteers noted that for such a small company, Red Five’s Red Hands Helping substantially “over-delivered,” and that all of our donations would go “directly to those who need them most.”
